Information and Communication Technology Enabled Active Learning in College Physics Experiment

2021
Due to practical problems in college physics experiment teaching, such as the lack of experiment equipment, students have to share the experiment equipment, making it more difficult to fully participate in the hands-on experiment. This paper proposes an approach to design physics experiment based on TEAL (Technology Enabled Active Learning) using Information and Communication Technology (ICT). An example of gravity measuring experiment is introduced which consists of a hardware module with Arduino and sensors and a software module of WeChat Mini Program which displays the experiment data in real time and analyzes the experimental data. Students are to develop the experiment system module(s) from scratch depending on their technical background. This approach greatly improves the students’ participation, practical ability and further understanding of the experimental principle, and stimulates students’ motivation for active learning and team collaboration.
