TMI-2 defueling canister reactivity analysis

1986
The accident at Three Mile Island Unit 2 (TMI-2) resulted in most of the reactor core's being reduced to debris ranging in size from very small fines to partial fuel assemblies. Babcock and Wilcox has designed three types of defueling canisters to receive this range of debris. Supporting these designs, detailed Monte Carlo reactivity calculations have been performed to ensure the criticality safety of each canister during the various loading, transfer, and storage conditions at the TMI-2 site.
