The magnetism of in-doped colossal magnetoresistance material FeIn0.2Cr1.8S4

2007
Abstract Single crystals of FeIn 0.2 Cr 1.8 S 4 compound have been grown by using the chemical transport method. In order to characterize the compound, electrical resistivity and magnetization have been studied. The conduction behavior could be described as magnetic-polaron transport. The temperature dependence of the DC magnetization, using zero field-cooling (ZFC) and field-cooling (FC) cycles, revealed a reentrant behavior at temperatures below 172 K. The analysis of the high-temperature data suggests that FeIn 0.2 Cr 1.8 S 4 is ferrimagnetic. The magnetic homogeneity of the samples has been proved by measurements of the AC magnetic susceptibility. Between 170 and 75 K the real part of the susceptibility is typical for a material at the phase transition from a paramagnetic to a long-range (ferrimagnetic) ordered state.
