New avenues for citizen science

Summary The last five decades have seen many major projects in ecology, conservation and archaeology that were only possible with the fieldwork of volunteer helpers, giving rise to the concept of citizen science. With today’s technology, citizen scientists can even contribute from home, or by doing nothing more than allowing access to their social media posts. Michael Gross reports.
