The article shows the theoretical principles involved in the microwave-matter interactions, with particular emphasis on the most relevant effect in microwave-assisted chemistry, a drastic cutback of the reaction time as a consequence of the increased heating-up speed. Finally, this review puts particular attention on practically-oriented applications which have already taken place in microwave polymer processing, such as rubber vulcanization or acrylic resins curing.
