The presentation will examine the opportunities for palm oil and palm fractions in North America stemming from the new regulations requiring the labeling of trans fatty acid (TFA) content in foods. It will compare the evolution of imports of palm oil and palm oil fractions into North America with the outlook for other alternative oils, including novel oilseeds and corn and cottonseed oils. It will also compare the costs of supplying palm oil and its fractions as well as of novel oils, relative to the costs of hydrogenating soybean oil. The presentation will conclude with an assessment of the potential opportunities for palm oil as well as for investment in alternative processing technologies in North America.
