Dynamics of textured pico-sliders during contact start/stop

2003
Island-type texture with a height of 4.5 nm was fabricated on pico-sliders with a nominal flying height of 7 nm. The dynamics of the textured and untextured sliders were investigated using laser Doppler vibrometry during contact start/stop. The results showed that the amplitudes of both out-of-plane and in-plane vibrations were reduced as a consequence of the texture on the slider surfaces.
