INCIDENCE OF BIPOLARIS SOROKINIANA IN PUNJAB AND KHYBER PAKHTOON KHAWA, PAKISTAN

The surveys conducted during 2004 and 2005 showed that foliar blight was prevalent in all wheat growing zones. The maximum incidence (31%) of foliar blight during 2004 was in zone 9 (NWFP). During 2005 the highest disease incidence was 59.3 percent observed in zone 5 (Southern Punjab). The lowest incidence was found in zone 7 (Northern Punjab) and zone 9 (NWFP) during 2004 and 2005 respectively. Among different fungi, Bipolaris sorokiniana was found the dominating fungus after isolation of fungi from blighted leaf samples. Its highest incidence (80%) was observed in zone 9 (NWFP) during 2004. Similarly the highest incidence was found in zone 6 of Punjab province during 2005.
