Design and development of cost effective agricultural weeder

Abstract Agriculture plays a very important role in any country’s economic system. It not only provides food and raw materials, but also employment opportunities to a very large proportion of population. In India, about 65 to 70% of population is directly engaged in agriculture. In modern farming, the importance of farm machineries has increased due to its direct impact on the success in yielding satisfactory profit. In worldwide, there are approximately 250,000 species exist, out of which around 8000 species (3%) behaves like weeds. These weeds creates problem in several ways, importantly they reduce the yield and quality of crop. Removing these weeds are become a primary job to improve the yield. In the proposed project work, cost effective agricultural weeder machine was designed and developed. The weeder machine has two weeder blades which is used to remove the weeds effectively. The total cost spent to develop the weeder is around 4000 rupees which far cheaper than the machines available in market. In future the performance of the weeder machine will be compared to the manual and other machines to prove its effectiveness.
