Solvent‐Free Synthesis of Diaryl α‐Tetralones via Michael Addition under Microwave Irradiation

A one-pot synthesis of diaryldimethyl-α-tetralones via Michael addition and subsequent Robinson annulation reactions of isophorone with chalcones was carried out in solvent-free conditions under microwave irradiation. The reagents were either supported on basic mineral solid supports or mixed with a phase-transfer catalyst in basic medium. Substantial rate enhancements were observed and much shorter reaction times were needed upon microwave irradiation than by conventional heating.
