Synthesis, nonlinear optical, magnetic and electrical properties of ultra-stable open-shell pancake bonding linked perylene diimide anion radicals π-oligomer

2020
Abstract A stable open-shell bay-bromine substitute perylene diimide anion radical π-oligomer was facilely synthesized in N,N′-dimethylformamide with K2CO3. The unusual π-oligomer showed wide absorption of 400–850 nm and the spacing for adjacent perylene core was 3.25 A. Z-scan measurements exhibited that π-oligomer had high nonlinear optical character with βeff = −1.85 × 10−13 m/W, γeff = 1.025 × 10−19 m2/W. χMT value of π-oligomer reached 13.376 emu·K·Oe−1·mol−1 at 300 K which was far more than the theoretical value for one isolated spin of radical (0.375 emu·K·Oe−1·mol−1). Further, Conductivity of the π-oligomer depended on the temperature.
