Female Voice through the Epistolary Form in The Color Purple

Alice Walker's representative novel The Color Purple adopts the epistolary form to tell the story of a black woman Celiewho experiences changes from obedience to rebel. Walker does not only employ the traditional epistolary form, but also innovatesand subverts it. In order to discuss the initiation theme of the novel profoundly, this essay will make an analysis of the female voicein the novel through the extraordinary epistolary narrative form.
