Day-Ahead Security Constrained Unit Commitment with controllable risk

2019
Wind power, as a clean and renewable energy, has attracted more and more attentions in recent years. But, at the same time, its intermittence and volatility nature brings risks to the reliable operation of power systems. In this paper, we propose a new framework of day-ahead security constrained unit commitment (SCUC) to integrate wind power under a certain risk level. This framework consists of two stages. In the first stage, the on/off statues of units and the upper bound of the wind integration are determined by solving a chance constraint optimization problem. The probability of discarding wind power is calculated by the upper bound. In the second stage, the risk of power imbalance can be calculated by determining the lower bound of the wind integration. The effectiveness of the proposed method is testified using the simulation results on the actual system of a province in China.
