Ionic liquid crystals with circularly polarized luminescence

Abstract The first ionic liquid crystals with circularly polarized luminescence were observed based on diphenylacrylonitrile-imidazole salts bearing chiral alkyl chains. Their ordered spiral hexagonal columnar mesophase with long alkyl chains leaded to the effective chiral transfer and chiroptical amplification, resulting in high luminescence dissymmetry factors.
