CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF Pulicaria uliginosa

2015
Previously, the epigeal part of P. uliginosa afforded essential oil (0.24%), organic acids (2.4%), carbohydrates (4.5%), alkaloids (0.1%), coumarins (0.94%), flavonoids (1.3%), tanning agents (5.1%), and vitamin C [4]. We isolated a sesquiterpene lactone [5] and flavone [6] from P. uliginosa collected in the vicinity of Pungon village, Pap district, Namangan province (Uzbekistan). In continuation of research on the chemical composition of the aerial part of P. uliginosa, we extracted the plant collected during flowering with EtOH (70%) at room temperature. The combined EtOH extract was evaporated in vacuo, diluted with H 2 O (1:1), and shaken sequentially with extraction naphtha, CHCl 3 , EtOAc, and n-BuOH. The EtOAc extract was chromatographed over a column of silica gel using gradients of extraction naphtha–EtOAc (10:1–1:1) and CHCl 3 –MeOH (25:1–1:1) to isolate compounds 1–5 of terpenoid and phenolic nature. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated using spectral data (PMR, 13 C NMR, DEPT, HSQC, HMBC, COSY) and direct
