Improvement of scintillation properties and weakening of afterglow of Lu2xGd2(1-x) SiO5:Ce (LGSO, x=0.2) single crystals

We developed Lu 2x Gd 2(1-x) SiO 5 :Ce (LGSO, x = 0.2) single crystal as gamma-ray detectors for medical imaging applications. Scintillation properties of LGSO were improved by optimized growth conditions and advanced post-growth annealing. As a result, the LGSO crystal showed large light output which is about twice that of GSO, good energy resolution and significantly weak afterglow.
