Optimization of drilling parameters of epoxy/rice husk composite material

Abstract The polymer based composites are used in various applications due to their light weight, chemical inertness and long life. In this study the effect of rice husk addition to epoxy based composite plates on the drilling parameters was investigated. The results showed that the addition of rice husk considerably improves strength of the composites and the rice husk not only strengthens the matrix, but also acts as a lubricant and thus aiding in the machining process. This study shows the effectiveness of natural fillers in improving the quality of the drilled holes at a cheaper cost.
