Sample Preparation and Identification of Biological, Chemical and Mid-Spectrum Agents

2005
Abstract : A general survey of sample preparation and identification techniques for biological, chemical and mid-spectrum agents was conducted as part of Canada's contribution to a joint NATO Allied Engineering Publication (AEP) handbook. The handbook integrates, in its various chapters, the diverse aspects of sampling, transport, identification, reporting and training as they relate to biological, chemical and mid-spectrum agents. The handbook provides a common reference to NATO member nations for the development of their own identification capabilities and for the integration of these capabilities into the framework of NATO operations. The handbook could be utilized to direct the development, standardization and integration of member country deployable laboratories, which will support NATO field operations on a rotational basis. This report forms the basis of Canada's contribution to the latest edition of the handbook. In addition to sample preparation and analysis, it discusses; quality assurance, chain of custody and the criteria used for identifying the biological, chemical and mid-spectrum agents.
