Molecular genetic techniques for typing of Bartonella isolates

Primer sets for PCR detection of four housekeeping genes of Bartonella spp. isolated from clinical material were developed and tested. We tested a strategy of the specific restriction fragment length polymorphism typing of bartonella species using as an example two strains isolated for the first time in Russia from patients with endocarditis and fever of uncertain origin. The results of typing were confirmed by sequencing of the obtained amplicons. The results of sequencing confirmed the affiliation of these isolates to the subspecies B. vinsonii subsp. arupensis. The necessity of molecular epidemiological analysis of bartonellosis in Russia was substantiated.
