Jobs Promoting Biodiversity in the Paris Region

2015
Using a monographic analysis of the classification of economic activities in the Paris region, we measure the number of jobs whose activity fully or partly promotes biodiversity in the region and the number of indirect jobs at national level. Today, one in 1,000 jobs in the Paris region meets this criterion, making a total of 5,090 persons employed in “bio-jobs”. Over 70 % of these jobs are in non-profit organisations, R & D and public administration. There are also 2,355 indirect jobs for a grand total of 7,445 persons in direct and indirect bio-jobs. We conclude by exploring scenarios for regional policies to support bio-jobs.
