Frequency based signal processing technique for pulse modulation (PM) ground penetrating radar (GPR) system

2021
This paper discusses on the processing method of PM GPR system in detecting an embedded object underground. The proposed technique is using frequency domain operation which can be classified two parameters which are magnitude and phase. By using this techniques and parameters, the underground iron object can be identified with regard to position and depth. In addition, a dipole antenna with operating frequency from 70 MHz until 80 MHz is used as a scanner to detect the iron object in dry sandy soil. Based on the simulation, the proposed technique seems to be able to detect underground iron object. By using the parameter of magnitude value, the underground iron object can be detected as displayed in GPR radargram in the depth range from 0 mm until 1000 mm. Meanwhile, by using the parameter of the phase value, the embedded object underground detected is in the range of depth between 900 mm and 1000 mm. Therefore, based on this promising result, the proposed technique is considered can be used in the GPR system as a signal processing technique to detect an embedded object.
