Smart cities critical infrastructure recommendations and solutions

2021
Abstract It is very important to know the services and responsibilities of the city administration. Regardless of this objective, building a comfortable and sustainable city for the citizens by putting the quality of life at the center of the city, is one of these responsibilities. In fact, the issue of the way how city administrations change especially with global and technological changes requires a detailed analysis. In this context, critical issues like transportation, health, education, energy, and environment are among the topics to be examined. Of course, rather than providing these services by their names, the responsibilities of meeting the services, the management procedures, the economic and technological situation of the city, the forms of urban intervention against the risks and problems that may occur, and the sustainability of the service are very important. The reason for looking at these services on a city-specific basis is that urban infrastructures use a large proportion of energy usage outside the large production-oriented facilities. Water, energy, and transportation are the most critical infrastructures in the growing cities with increasing population. Moreover, it is unchanging that in the 2050s, probably about 60% of the world’s population will live in cities. In this study, recommendations are given about how an ideal city management should be in some of the critical city services and current state-of-the-art studies are listed.
