Hemorrhagic Septicemia in Cyprinids from Geaca-Ţaga Lake System, Cluj County, Romania
2010
The mesophilic bacterial species from the genus Aeromonas have been reported as fish pathogens, Aeromonas hydrophila being the most significant one, even if its importance have been over estimated in the past (Nielesen et al. 2001). A. hydrophila is associated with aquatic habitats causing different illnesses under different stressors such environmental changes, high temperature, overcrowding, fish transfer, low dissolved oxygen, parasitic infections etc (Aoki 1999, Munteanu & Bogatu 2003). In freshwater cultured cyprinid fishes, this opportunistic pathogen has been associated with different diseases such as tail and fin rot, hemorrhagic septicaemia and epizootic ulcerative syndrome (Munteanu & Bogatu 2003).
