The Tectonic Development History of Aniclinal Traps of Cretaceous Deposits on The Yamal Peninsula

2021
Summary The Yamal Peninsula is located in the north-west of Western Siberia, on the territory of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region of Russia, and is a strategic base for the development of gas production, which has no alternative in Russia yet. This work is devoted to the analysis of the structural-tectonic structure, the restoration of the main stages of the formation of positive structures - potential traps for Cretaceous deposits. The results of the structural-tectonic analysis showed that on the Yamal Peninsula, anticlinal traps that control hydrocarbon traps are not reflected on the map of the thicknesses of the Jurassic deposits, this indicates that uplifts were practically not formed in the Jurassic. The formation of anticlinal structures in the reliefs of the Mesozoic horizons began in the Berriasian-Early Aptian and took place most intensively in the Cenozoic, when, due to the active growth of the Kharasaveysky, Bovanenkovsky, Neitinsky, Arctic, Sredneyamalsky, Novoportovsky uplifts of the peninsula, a large positive structure – the ridge - stretched in the northwestern direction was formed - Nurminsky megaswell - Novoportovsky swell. Thus, the Cenozoic stage of development became decisive for the formation of hydrocarbon reservoirs in this area.
