Throughout a detailed revision of the citizen integration plan of the city of Parla (Madrid), we discover the complexity of the local social reality is oversimplified, leading to the appearance of preconceptions and assumptions regarding to different significant concepts. This paper seeks to develop a theoretical analysis of three of these terms (integration, identity and culture) to expose and claim the importance of employing anthropological and sociological gazes in the active design, development and assessment of public policies for integration.
