THE EFFECT OF CO-SINTERING TREATED APC RESIDUES IN THE MSW-TEST INCINERATOR TAMARA ON THE QUALITY OF THE BOTTOM ASHES

2001
One of the main problems of modern municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration is the disposal of solid air pollution control (APC) residues which are considered as hazardous waste. The so called Ferrox process for treating APC residues has recently been developed by the Technical University of Denmark and Babcock Wilcox Volund. This paper describes experiments on co-feeding of Ferrox products and MSW in the Karlsruhe TAMARA pilot plant for waste incineration. The tests aimed for sound data to reveal any influences of the co-feeding on the combustion process itself and on the quality of all combustion residues. For bottom ash qualification, various standardized leaching tests have been used.
