X-band radar monitoring campaign in Central London: an experiment to assess and improve the applicability of a low-cost portable X-band radar to urban hydrology

With the purpose of exploring the potential benefits of a low cost, portable X-band radar for urban hydrological applications, a Rainscanner® RS90 (Table 1) was deployed on the rooftop of a tall building in Hampstead, Central London. The radar was operational in the period of June October 2013. During this time several storm events were recorded and high resolution QPEs were generated through a chain of processing algorithms described in Section 2.
