Acta Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2013, LXI, No. 7, pp. 2415–2421 High population as well as the economical tension emphasises the necessity of eff ective city management – from land use planning to urban green maintenance. The management eff ectiveness is based on precise knowledge of the city environment. Point clouds generated by mobile and terrestrial laser scanners provide precise data about objects in the scanner vicinity. From these data pieces the state of the roads, buildings, trees and other objects important for this decision-making process can be obtained. Generally, they can support the idea of “smart” or at least “smarter” cities. Unfortunately the point clouds do not provide this type of information automatically. It has to be
