Chapter Summary This protocol chapter outlines the technical knowledge necessary to conduct correct sample handling for electron microscopic analysis of mouse reproductive organs during pregnancy. Some basic knowledge of the physics of images generated by electromagnetic waves is discussed in order to distinguish between light and electron microscopy. Detailed standard protocols using the pregnant mouse uterus as a reference for ultrastructural analysis and ultrastructural immunocytochemistry are described.
