Production of ribbon-like silicon crystal

PURPOSE: To easily obtain a thin and flat ribbon-like silicon crystal by immediately introducing and passing the silicon ribbon having passed a growth section into and through the melting section of a prescribed temp. at the time of producing the ribbon-like silicon crystal by a supporting web method. CONSTITUTION: A net-like fiber fabric 1 (e.g.; carbon fiber net) which has resistance to molten silicon and exhibits high emissivity is prepd. as a base and a crystal nucleus forming body. While the fabric 1 is brought into contact with the surface of the silicon melt 2 in a melting vessel 6, the fabric is horizontally drawn out to allow the silicon crystals to grow on the fabric 1. The resulted silicon ribbon 3 is then passed in the drawing out direction 4 through the melting section A having a cover 5 arranged above the melt 2 right after the passage through the growth section W while the ribbon is brought into contact with the surface of the melt 2. At this time, the temp. of the cover 5 is regulated to the temp. equal to or above the intermediate temp. on the ribbon surface on the net side of the silicon ribbon 3, to obtain the ribbon-like silicon crystal.
