Double Wye Modular Multilevel Converter - Direct DC-DC Topology

Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) topology starts to be more and more popular in various power electronic applications. The main reason of increased popularity of MMC is demonstrating of advantages over other traditional topologies. The key benefit of modular approach is observed especially in easy scaling of the converter voltage and simple implementation of redundancy. Existing MMC topologies include different variants of solutions. The most applicable are: AC-DC and direct AC-AC, delta and wye connections. Less frequently analysed is DC-DC conversion, realised with intermediate AC link incorporating magnetic components. In this publication the new double wye direct DC-DC topology is introduced and discussed.
