Corpus callosum in first-episode patients with schizophrenia:a magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging study

2008
Objective To investigate diffusion tensor imaging(DTI) abnormalities of the corpus callosum in first-episode patients with schizophrenia.Method We assessed the values of fractional anisotropy(FA) of corpus callosum in 60 patients with diagnoses of schizophrenia and 26 healthy individuals. The 60 patients were evaluated by PANSS on the first day of hospitalization.Result Analyses revealed that compared to healthy controls, schizophrenia patients showed reductions in the values of FA of corpus callosal. Conclusion These results indicate that schizophrenia is characterized by pathology of this principal interhemispheric commissure.
