An Annotated Preliminary Checklist of Birds Diversity in Coastal Ecotourism Area of Ganjam, Southern Odisha, India

Status, abundance and food habits of birds were indicate the coastal tourism area which was healthy environment and valuable of biodiversity. Observations were made on the occurrence, abundance and food habits of avifauna in coastal area Ganjam, Odisha. Surveys were conducted during April 2012 to October 2014. A total of 76 species of coastal area birds of 61 genera and 31 families were recorded. The occurrence, ecological status and food habitat of different species of coastal area avifaunal was recorded. Of all the families, Scolopacidae (12), Ardeidae (9), Accipitridae (7), Rallidae and Anatidae (5 species each), Sturnidae and Corvidae (3 species each), Alcedinidae, Aves, Ciconiidae, Cuculidae, Jacanidae, Laridae, Phasianidae and Threskiornithidae (2 species each), Anhingidae, Bucerotidae, Cerylidae, Charadriidae, Coraciidae, Dicruridae, Halcyonidae, Megalaimidae, Meropidae, Passeridae, Phalacrocoracidae, Podicipedidae, Psittacidae, Recurvirostridae, Sternidae and Upupidae (1 species each). It is expected that this study would provide a preliminary database for the coastal birds of this area force the further research.
