ASVAB Subtest and Composite Homogenization

2010
Abstract : A study covering the past 20 years of Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) data was conducted to determine if a trend exists between increasing intercorrelations of the subtests and composite scores and possible explanations for any findings. Analyses showed that over time the Electronic Information (EI) and Paragraph Comprehension (PC) subtests have shown increased intercorrelations with the other subtests and an increasing extent to which the composites measure general mental ability (g). The report provides a few suggestions as to why the statistics demonstrate these findings and suggest the Air Force re-evaluate the benefits of attempting to add discriminant validity to the ASVAB.
