Informatie en informatica in het Provinciaal Museum Sterckshof-Zilvercentrum

The authors present a survey of the realizations in the field of information and informatics in the Provincial Museum Sterckshof-Zilvercentrum during the last five years. As concerns the museum collection the emphasis was shifted from decorative arts to silverware. In doing so, inserviceable subcollections were given in a long term loan to other Belgian institutions and museums. For the automated registration of art objects, Cipal developed a software called 'Musae' as a Powerbuilder application. Together with the weeding of the library collection, the automated input of the works was started. Today, 60% of the entire collection and 95% of the main subject 'decorative arts' has been processed. Besides, an elaborate website guarantees a more international recognizability of the museum and all its aspects. The own silver collection has been registered and can be consulted - together with other information on the museum - by the visitor by means of touchscreens.
