Designing a Series Active Power Filter for Mitigating Harmonics of a High Frequency Resonant Inverter

2021
The project which has been presented in the paper deals with a high-frequency resonant inverter. It uses a resonant inverter which operates at a high frequency for applications in induction heating, specifically for industrial related heating applications. As the main component here is a power electronic converter, an inverter, it will act as a non-linear device for the supply utility. Thus, it is responsible for the injection of harmonics in the power grid. Therefore, to control the injection of these harmonics in the grid, a series active power filter (SeAPF) has been introduced for the filtering action to smoothen out any unwanted distortion. An additional control circuit has been designed for controlling the active filter, which in turn is based on the DQ theory. This controller basically generates the reference voltage signals which will control the VSI (used as the active filter). Further the THD of the input signal with and without the filter has been shown to show the mitigation of harmonics. All the simulations are carried out in the PSIM software.
