Networks and near-field communication: up-close but far away

2021
Abstract As various wearable sensors are developed, interest in their wireless operation is rapidly increasing, and many studies are being conducted. Since near-field communication (NFC) technology does not require a battery because it receives power wirelessly, it is very advantageous to miniaturize the device, which has great potential to be applied as a wearable sensor. Therefore various thinned and miniaturized wearable sensors equipped with a wireless functionality combining NFC are being studied. This chapter provides a brief description of NFC and introduces its configuration, design rules, and various sensors, and battery-free operation and long-range applications.
