A method for extraction of depression cone based on digital groundwater level models

In this paper,a digital groundwater level model is constructed using the Kriging method.An algorithm is developed to automatically extract depression cones of groundwater levels from the model based on the definition of a depression cone.A case study demonstrates the application of the new algorithm.The results show that the depression cone extracted using the method is a better representation of the real world.It is believed that the new algorithm is able to depict more accurately and objectively the depression cones of regional groundwater levels.Application of the model will benefit the advance of groundwater modeling.
