How 'to Be Like' a Kiwi: Verbs of Quotation in New Zealand English

A study examines the use of verbs of quotation among speakers of New Zealand English in 2000, and compares them to patterns of use as recorded from studies in 1995 and 1996. Results reveal that an American pattern in the use of quotative verbs is increasingly being used by young New Zealand English speakers.
