Glass element with low fracture probability

2014
The object of the invention is to provide a glass member having a thin glass are available which avoids the disadvantages of the prior art and, in particular, has a low probability of breakage due to a delayed crack growth. For this purpose, a glass element is provided comprising a thin glass with a thickness of less than 1.2 mm having a first and a second surface. Both surfaces are interconnected by at least two parallel edges. A polymer coating on at least the two parallel edges is provided, wherein the polymer coating is selected from the group of self-healing plastics and the probability of breakage of the glass member by a maximum fracture rate less than or equal 10% over a period greater than 6 months at a maximum tensile stress of greater than or equal is 21 MPa.
