The Food and COVID-19 NYC Archive: Mapping the Pandemic's Effect on Food in Real Time

2020
Dentley and Borkowsky explore the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in real time In early Mar 2020, as the coronavirus had migrated to the US and began to make its presence known in New York City (NYC), it became clear that class configuration would undergo some drastic changes NYC quickly became the global center of the pandemic The US and New York in particular were woefully unprepared to handle the volume of cases Thus, in a matter of a few weeks, many had to absorb and grapple with the fact that COVID would dramatically change classes and people's lives While many students sheltered in place in tiny NYC apartments, some left the city to live with friends and family As most are holding class via Zoom, and many are struggling to figure out how to make meaningful use of their time, including shifting gears with regard to teaching style, discussions, and length of reading assignments that anyone could realistically complete in the midst of such a frightening moment
