Stator structure for noise reduction of switched reluctance motor

This paper presents methods for reducing the acoustic noise in switched reluctance motors (SRMs) by changing the structure of stator and examining the flux barrier shape. Desirable structure of the SRM with 6/4 poles for reducing the acoustic noise is discussed using the finite element analysis, and the relationship between the sound pressure level and the maximum displacement of the stator is shown. Two methods to reduce the acoustic noise of SRM are proposed. One is to appropriately determine the structure of the stator yoke and the shape of the pole to improve the mechanical strength of the stator. The other is to put the appropriate shape of the flux barrier inside the rotor poles to reduce the radial force. Simulation results show that the methods proposed in this paper are very useful for reducing the acoustic noise.
