Flexural stiffness envelopes for planar multilayered systems containing two dissimilar materials

1999
AbstractThe flexural stiffness of multilayer systems, using two dissimilar materials, namely a high-strength titanium alloy and titanium metal matrix alloy, has been determined. The development of different types of symmetric and asymmetric layered systems is presented and stiffness envelopes are determined for the systems. It is demonstrated that there are several layered structures, which can provide the same flexural stiffness. The results are discussed in the context of other mechanical properties such as the strength, impact toughness and damping capacity.
