Carbon Nano Tube Field Effect inverter: Delay time & power consumption analysis

2015
In this paper, a simulation study of Carbon Nano Tube Field Effect Transistor inverter performance is presented using the Southampton model. Evaluation of results from this study was made in terms of propagation delay time and total power consumed by the circuit. Tradeoff between these factors has led to the use of power delay product as a good indicator for design purposes. Such indicator plays a vital role in identifying the figure of merit of energy consumption for any digital system. All of the simulations presented are done for different number of inverters connected in series. Results show that as the number of inverters is increased the parameters involved are inversely proportional. Furthermore, we assess inverter performance when more complex circuits, viz., NOR gates, are involved via simulations. In this paper we also consider effects of varying the primary parameters of concern, viz., the chirality vector, the diameter of the nanotube and number of nanotubes used.
