REDUCTION IN ECONOMIC COSTS IN A MODERN TOWN BY WAY OF COORDINATED TOWN AND TRAFFIC PLANNING, DEMONSTRATED BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE MAIN TRAFFIC PLAN FOR JAKARTA/INDONESIA, A PROJECT WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF TECHNICAL AID FROM THE FEDERAL GERMAN REPUBLIC

IN CHOOSING THE FUTURE TRAFFIC CONCEPTION FOR JARKARTA, AREA UTILIZATION WAS ALSO TAKEN AS A VARIABLE. THE LEGAL BASIS FOR TOWN DEVELOPMENTS IS THE MASTER PLAN 1965-1986, WHICH WAS TO BE THE BASIS ALSO FOR THE MAIN TRAFFIC PLAN. THIS WAS EXTENDED IN THE FIRST INSTANCE FOR THE YEAR 2000, RETAINING ITS FIRST DRAFT, AND DEVELOPING RELEVANT TRAFFIC SYSTEMS. THE MASTER PLAN PROVIDES FOR TOWN EXPANSION IN THE FORM OF CONCENTRIC RINGS FROM THE NATIONAL MONUMENT. AS AN ALTERNATIVE A DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOWN WAS CONSIDERED ALONG HIGHLY CONCENTRATED TRAFFIC CORRIDORS OF THE TOWN TRAMWAYS. THIS IS LINKED WITH THE FORMATION OF SUB-CENTRES, A STRONG FUNCTIONAL ARRANGEMENT OF THE TOWN STRUCTURE AND A BETTER ARRANGEMENT OF HOUSING AND WORK PLACES BEARING IN MIND TRAFFIC ASPECTS. THE EFFECT OF THIS COORDINATION OF TOWN STRUCTURE AND TRAFFIC SYSTEM WAS, THAT THE ECONOMIC COSTS OF THE WHOLE TRAFFIC SYSTEM COULD BE LOWERED BY ABOUT HALF.
