• Over the last dozen years, NASA has launched a series of satellites – known collectively as the Earth Observing System (EOS) – that has provided critical insights into the dynamics of the entire Earth system: clouds, oceans, vegetation, ice, solid Earth and atmosphere. • Suomi-NPP is the first satellite in the series of Joint Polar-Orbiting Satellite System (JPSS) to extend and improve upon the Earth system data records and weather prediction capability.
