Use of geospatial tools for decision-making in the arboviruses prevention and control, in the Cordoba city, Argentina

2017
In Argentina, the Dengue virus (within the group of arbovirosis) has been a major public health problem since 1997. The most important outbreak in the history was carried out in 2016, and with the main transmitting vector Ae. Aegypti the transmission of the Chikungunya and Zika viruses was potentiated. The goal of this study is provide useful tools, such as the Aedes distribution prediction models, for decision makers in order to control vector. We apply maximun entropy method using Aedes breeding sites and macro environmental variables derived from Spot 6 images. Five maps of probability of vector presence was produced. Un increment in the areas with a high probability of presence from 4.8% in October to 8.8% in January was observed. The spatio-temporal distribution patterns of Ae. Aegypti accomplished in this work intends to contribute in taking actions in vector control in Cordoba city.
