Some comments on "perfect imaging" in the presence of materials having negative permittivity and negative permeability

2004
We analyze the electromagnetic fields of two classical problems in the presence of a negative index slab. The analysis is further restricted to the case when the conditions of perfect imaging are satisfied [1]. First we analyze the behavior of a dipole field near a negative index slab as discussed in reference [2], and comment on the singularities of the electromagnetic field that occur under the conditions of perfect imaging. The commonly used approaches to resolve these singularities are also discussed. Considering the perfect imaging of a diffraction grating follows the analysis of dipole field. Again similar singularities in the electromagnetic fields suggest further investigation into this issue.
