Design of an Area Efficient Quantum Dot Cellular Automata Based Full Adder Cell Having Low Latency

2021
As feature size reduction in conventional semiconductor process is getting harder and more challenging, researchers are looking for alternative technologies. Among the various evolutionary technologies, Quantum Dot Cellular Automata (QCA) seems to be quite promising. In this paper, a QCA based Full Adder (FA) cell has been designed in coplanar structure using a combination QCA majority gate and inverters. QCADesigner tool has been utilized for design and simulation purpose of the QCA FA cell. In order to benchmark and compare the performance and effectiveness of the proposed QCA FA cell, ten existing QCA FA cells have been simulated along with the proposed on. The proposed QCA FA showed superior performance in terms of latency, quantum cost and quantum ration while compared with the existing counterparts. Moreover, the quantum cell number of the proposed QCA FA is the lowest for which the design requires less surface area compared to the existing ones.
