Minimum Migration Time Selection Algorithm for Container Consolidation

Container technology is becoming more and more popular and important for the cloud environment. Servers, network components, and cooling systems are the top three energy consumers of the data center. The server's energy consumption accounts for about 50% of the total energy consumption. Therefore, it is essential and meaningful to study how to improve energy efficiency in the data center by container consolidation which reduces the number of running servers. In this research, we have put forward a container selection algorithm during container consolidation, and then we compared this algorithm and evaluated its performance based on indicators such as average container migrations rate, the number of virtual machines created, energy consumption and service level agreement violations. It can be seen from the experimental results that the algorithm has a good effect on improving energy efficiency.
